Little Kids River Skills Class
Our kids' river skills class is perfect for kids who want to get on the water in all types of crafts and get an introduction to whitewater skills! This class will cover the basics of reading water, river hydrology, river safety, whitewater swimming, and more.
The first day starts with getting to know the kids and the instructors. We will have time to discuss any other river experiences the kids have had, and what they want to accomplish during the week! From there, we will learn about the safety gear used, how to properly wear it, and about the different types of watercraft. After this, we will use our on-site pool to begin to learn some basic skills like balancing and paddling in a kayak. From there, we will head to a flat section of the Animas or Lake Nighthorse to play games and get more comfortable in our boats!
The rest of the week will follow the same plan as the first day, but we will be able to take out all kinds of different crafts on the water. The kids can choose between stand-up paddleboards, inflatable kayaks, and hardshell whitewater boats. This gives the kids a chance to experience all the different ways to enjoy time on the water!
This class includes all gear, transportation, and instructors.

Cancellation Policy
The Southwest can have very sudden and unpredictable changes in weather. All classes run rain or shine, unless there are weather related safety concerns. All programs may be changed at our discretion. To keep our classes affordable, we must fill a program with a minimum amount of participants. We reserve the right to cancel the program if the minimum amount of participants is not met. A full refund will be provided if a class is cancelled, and you will be notified no later than 48 hours before the beginning of the class.
If you need to reschedule or cancel your reservation, please do so 48 hours or more before the beginning of the class. Cancellations within 48 hours of the beginning of the program are non- refundable. If you wish to reschedule within 48 hours before the beginning of the program, we can provide a 50% credit towards the rescheduled class.
