Whitewater Oar Sizing Guide

Sizing your oars are a critical step in getting the right raft setup. Oar size is based on the overall width of your raft or cataraft frame. Measure your frame from one oar lock to the other to determine the overall width. All oars shafts are measured as an overall length with the blade on. The actual shaft length will be approx 27″- 30″ shorter than the overall listed length.

This table is our RECOMMENDED oar length. This may vary depending on exact frame geometry and personal preference. If sitting up high on a cooler or flip chair, consider going with the longer recommended length. All measurements are based off of standard NRS and DRE frame widths.

Frame Width:

  • 48″ = 7′ or 7.5′ oar
  • 54″ = 7.5′ or 8′ oar
  • 60″ = 8.5′ or 9′ oar
  • 66″ = 9′ or 9.5′ oar
  • 72″ = 9.5′ or 10′ oar
  • 78″ = 10.5′ or 11′ oar
  • 84″ = 11′ or 12′ oar
