YAKIMA FIT GUIDE

Confused as to which Yakima system is right for you? Because of all the different vehicle and rack combos that exist, choosing the correct rack system can be a daunting task. That's where we come in. The easiest way to find the right Yakima rack for you is to give us a call at 1-800-4Corners (1-800-426-7637) and speak to one of our Yakima trained employees. You can also go to ­Yakima.com and click on "Fit my car",  but if you call us directly, we may be able to fit your with alternate solutions that Yakima's website may not list. Below is a general fit guide to outline what type of rack system may fit your needs best.

We offer free installations on all non-permanent Yakima and Thule systems (permanent system installations are charged a small fee). Please call ahead to schedule an installation appointment

General Fit Guide

If your vehicle has a naked roof:

Then you'll most likely need the Q-Tower/Q-Clip system with Crossbars. There are MANY different Q-Clips and your vehicle will need a specific one, so contact us directly for fit and availability.

If your vehicle has raingutters, then you can use 1A Raingutter or 1A HiRise Raingutter towers.

If your vehicle has factory crossbars:

A lot of Yakima's new attachments will fit your vehicle's crossbars directly, such as the Big Stack, Bowdown, Showboat, Evenkeel, Load Warrior, Powderhound, Big Powderhound and Forklift. All Thule boxes will fit directly as well.

The majority of the rest of Yakima's attachments, such as the Kayak Stacker, Hullraiser, HullyRoller, Mako Saddles will fit with the addition of the Universal MightyMount.

A small selection of Yakima's attachments will only fit Yakima or Thule sized bars, such as the Gunwhale Brackets and Boatloader (which will only work with Yakima bars).

If your vehicle has factory tracks/rails or you'd like to use Yakima bars in place of your existing rails:

Then you'll need one of two systems:

If your vehicle has siderails then you will need the RailGrab system with a set of Crossbars.

If your vehicle has tracks but no siderails, then you will need the Control Tower / Landing Pad combo with a set of Crossbars. Contact us for Landing Pad fit.

If you have a truck:

...then things get a little more complicated.

If you have a 4-door cab and will be carrying short boats, skis, bikes, cargo baskets or boxes, then the Q-Tower/Q-Clip system is most likely what you'll need.

If you're carrying longer (10+ foot) boats or long cargo, then the Outdoorsman or the DryDock mounted to either a front or rear receiver hitch plus a pair of Q-towers will probably fit your needs.

If you'd like to do a "permanent" installation to a tonneau, shell or camper, then you'll need to figure out if you can mount to the top or to the sides. Permanent installation doesn't mean that you can't remove the rack, but rather you'll be drilling through the roof or sidewall to install a permanent track or bracket to mount the rack to.

If you're mounting to the roof, then you'll need either a Yakima Track / Control Tower combo OR a BoltTop Loader / Q-Tower combo.

If you're mounting to the sidewall, then you'll need either a SideLoader or WideBody bracket and 1A Raingutter or 1A HiRise Raingutter Tower. Alternately you can use the Quick-N-Easy towers in place of the 1A system.

Locks:

The majority of Yakima towers and attachments DO NOT include lock cores (unless otherwise indicated such as the Powderhound). The SKS Lock Core system is designed so you can use one key on every Yakima piece you own. They are not necessary, but are recommended for keeping your gear and your rack on your car and in your possession. If you have an existing lock and would like to match your new locks to the old ones, simply find the number printed on your keys and we can order the same cores for you.
