Kids Kayak Camp - New for 2010

Ages: 6-16

Dates: Mix and match dates from any Little Kids or Youth classes

Mix and match any three Levels of kids hard shell or inflatable kayak classes. Start with an Inflatable or Level 1 class and go from there! You may take as many of the same level of classes as necessary. Class choices may be modified later to fit the students needs. Must be the same student attending all classes. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation.

This three day program is tailored for 6-8 year olds and is a non-whitewater introduction to the world of hard shell kayaks and/or inflatable kayaks. Time will be spent in the solar heated pool, lake, and, if appropriate, slow moving stretches of the Animas river. Emphasis is on safety and fun in and around kayaks and rivers.

Get comfortable and have fun on the water from an inflatable kayak. This is a great way for kids to get into the great world of whitewater. Learn the basics such as paddle strokes, eddy turns, peel outs, ferries, water reading and safety. Includes equipment and transportation.

A beginning class designed for kids 8 to 10 years old, or those kids over 10 who want to sample the sport. This class is for those young folks who want to get a taste of what kayaking is all about. We will start in our solar heated pool then move to the lake, and finally an easy flat to moving water section of the Animas River. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation.

This class is for those young folks who have completed an intro course and want to continue learning the finer points of the sport. The Intro classes were so popular that many parents had asked "what's next" for their kids under 10 years of age- here's their answer. We will start where they left off in the Intro class with easy moving water sections and more lake and pool time. Includes equipment and transportation.

This beginning kids/young adults kayaking class is for those who want to get into paddling and have fun! This class will give students a solid foundation of paddling skills in which to continue in the sport of kayaking. We will begin in a solar heated pool, and the lake, and eventually progress to appropriate whitewater sections of the Animas River. Minimum age for this class is 10 years old. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation.

Youth Level 2 Kayak

This class is for those paddlers who have completed a beginner class or who have previous experience and want a review. We will review strokes, continue working on rolls, review basic maneuvers and then progress to whitewater sections of the Animas River. Focus will be on proper paddling technique and beginning surfing/playing. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation.

Youth Level 3 Kayak

Get ready to play hard and shred the river! This class is for those young paddlers who have significant kayaking experience and want to focus on more advanced river running skills and maneuvers, as well as playboating and surfing. Most of the time in this class will be spent on whitewater sections of the Animas River. Prerequisite for this class is completion of a Level 2 class or significant experience. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation.

Parent/Child Level 1 Kayak

Learn the sport of kayaking side by side with your son or daughter! This course will cover the essentials of the beginner class with teaching styles adapted for both children and adults. Come with a youthful attitude!

Kayak Roll Session

Ages: 6+
Price: $35
Times: 1.5 hours, anytime space is available in the pool
Dates: Early May-early September

Learn to roll a kayak for the first time or tune up your existing roll. Different types of rolls will be presented (sweep, C - C, back deck, hand rolls, offside), and instruction is catered to your skill level with a step-by-step progression. Includes all necessary equipment.
